During the construction period, the pipes must be cleaned to remove the foreign materials otherwise the debris from the uncleaned piping systems will lead to malfunctioning or damage of equipment, contamination and clogging of pipe or control valves.
The process of Air Blowing is using the air from a utility air supply or temporary compressor that can be carried out in the ways mentioned below:
Air-accumulation: In this method, a column, drum, or vessel associated with the pipe is filled with compressed air, then, the pipe at the downstream end is blown out by opening the valve.
Direct -blowing:
In this method, a hose or temporary pipe is used to connect the pipe that has to be air-blown to the air supply source.
Cardboard-blasting: This method is applied in large-diameter pipes ,where it is difficult
to get sufficient velocities for air blowing. The pressure is gradually increased by connecting air through a temporary connection or hose to one end of the pipe that is covered by a thin polymer film/ cardboard
initially.
